W.N.

The Honourable,

Major Paine,

Chief Magistrate.

Sir,

Victoria, 30th October, 1843.

With reference to the concluding paragraph of Your Letter No. 195, of the 29th of August, I am directed by His Excellency the Governor to say,

it appears to him the best means, complying with the wish of the commanding Officer at Check Choo, and to afford protection to that village would be for that Officer to furnish a small guard, for the shelter and accommodation of which, His Excellency will with pleasure sanction a proper room being built.

I have, &c.

(Signed) Richard Woosnam.
